Celebrations in Central America

Central America, the portion of land connecting The North American Continent to The South American continent is comprised of seven nations with a population of over forty million people, most of whom are Mestizo, with a mixture of Hispanic and indigenous heritages. In Central American, one finds Caribbean water, which is excellent for snorkelling and scuba diving. It has precipitation forests with exotic flora and fauna, well-preserved pre-Colombian ruins and towering pyramids.
Central Americans love to celebrate, and they do it with gusto. The Christian holidays to New Years is a weeklong holiday during which people throw white confetti at each other and revel in the prospect of a new year. Many of the Central American holidays are based on Latin Catholicism, three of them centring on the Virgin Mary.
The attractions, cultures and tourism infrastructure vary wildly from nation to country. There are many celebrations throughout Central America but one of the most vibrant and colourful is Carnival, celebrated a week before Lent, in Salvador. Semana Santa, which means the Holy week, ends on Easter Sunday, and is celebrated best in Guatemala, where colourful sawdust carpets and flowers adorn the procession. In Nicaragua, the Feast of San Jeronimo is celebrated with joy. Celebrations include fairs, parades, songfests and partying. Central America with all its splendour and colourful celebrations is the experience of a lifetime.
